HHF Old-Fashioned Farmstead Soap is now available to ship nationwide!
I started making soap two years ago when my supply of pork lard outstripped local piemakers’ demand. With the help of a knowledgable friend and some internet strangers, I formulated a recipe that would best utilize my snow-white rendered lard in a useful all-natural bar of soap. By mixing my lard with a small amount of coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil, I have crafted a base recipe that creates a beautiful creamy lather and leaves you clean and moisturized while lasting months in your shower or on your sink. These are not fancy soaps in the shape of shells or full of artificial perfumes; these are rustic bars hand-sliced in small batches with earthy, natural blends of essential oils. They have become a favorite of farmers market customers, and they are sure to become a staple in your household as well.
Plain Old Unscented: Just like it sounds! A truly pure bar of soap.
Birch Forest: (more stock available to ship mid-November) With a blend of cedarwood, fir needle, petitgrain, amyris, basil and sage essential oils with a splash of birch tar, this bar of soap is a woodsy delight with a hint of spice.
Flower Garden: Rose geranium, lavender, clary sage, ylang ylang, and amyris essential oils combine in a lovely floral blend, and rose petals or lavender buds add a beautiful texture.
Kitchen Witch: (Limited Edition) Guest soapmaking assistant Ana Maria (the titular witch) concocted a delightful blend of zesty and herbal essential oils (a real kitchen sink mix) and ended up with a peppy bar perfect for your own kitchen sink.
Birch Tar: (Limited Edition) The Birch Forest without the rest of the forest! A darker, smokier bar leaves you with a faint whisper of a bonfire.
Guest Bar Pack: Four small hunks of the above soaps, perfect for a guest bath, travel, or a small gift.
5 Bar Variety Pack: Five different bars of soap for a bit of savings. Farmer’s choice may include test batches not listed above.
More Birch Forest and Flower Garden, a delightful Rosemary Sage, and some facial bars with clay and activated charcoal.
